A service visit

From the text to the report

One technician, one to two hours, and nothing changes on the bill without your yes.

We go through the same checklist at every visit, so this year's report can sit beside last year's. Photos go in the report. If something needs a repair, it is on its own page, with a price.

A service visit

What happens when we come

Six steps, in this order, every visit.

  1. 01

Step 1: A text the day before

It names who is coming and the arrival window. Someone 18 or older should be home to let us in.

  2. 02

Step 2: We look it over

The enclosure, wiring, fuel connections, vents and the space around the unit, with photos as we go.

  3. 03

Step 3: Oil, filters and battery

Oil and filter, then the air filter and spark plugs when the maker's schedule says so, and a battery test.

  4. 04

    Step 4: The transfer switch

We open it, check the connections and make sure it moves the house to the generator and back.

  5. 05

Step 5: Start it, run it

We start it, let it run and shut it down. On the load-test plans we switch the house over and watch it carry the load.

  6. 06

    Step 6: The written report

What we did, what we saw and what to watch, with photos. A repair is quoted before any work, and you say yes first.

The load test

The step that shows you the most

A generator that starts with nothing connected can still struggle once the house is on it. On the load-test plans, we switch the whole house over, let it run and watch. The lights flicker once when we switch, and again when we switch back.

Questions

About the visit

How long does a visit take, and do I need to be home?

Plan on one to two hours, a little longer with a load test. During the load test the house is on generator power and the lights flicker once when we switch. Someone 18 or older should be home to let us in.

What is a load test, and why bother?

We switch your house over to the generator and let it carry the real load for a while. A generator can start fine with nothing running and still struggle once the house is on it. The test shows you that before an outage does.

What should I send before I book?

A photo of the generator's data plate and one of the transfer switch, if you can. Text them to us, or send them with the form.
